They also gathered shoots that grow wild near the dam for food. The men cleared the sand near the dam with their hands (meraup in Malay). Every time they meraup, they got gold. Because there was a lot of gold and it was easily gotten, just by meraup with their hands, it was believed that they named the area “RAUB”.
Since then, they continued to look for gold. The original place where they found gold is now the Raub District Council’s Field. That was how the story goes. However, if the name Raub originated from the word meraup, there is a slight difference in its spelling. The word meraup is from the verb “RAUP” but it is spelled “RAUB”. Nevertheless, due to its pronunciation in the local dialect, it may be more suitable to be spelled as “RAUB” than “RAUP”.

Tengku Haji Abdul Samad b. Tengku Muda was born in 1984 and died in 1916. He was a 'Pawang' (shaman) during his lifetime. He was the first Penghulu (Village Headman) Mukim Gali from 1900 until 1906.
Dato' Setia Lela Road, Raub Town
Named after a title awarded by His Royal Highness Sultan of Pahang.

Hussein b. Tok Muda Hassan was born on 12 July 1916 in Dong Village, Raub. He obtained his education at the Malay College Kuala Kangsar, Perak.
Tan Tiong Road, Raub Town
He was born in China in 1980 and migrated to Raub in 1886. He died on 8 march 1948. He was on the Raub Sanitary Board from1900 until his resignation on 19 January 1937. He was the first Chinese Captain to awarded with Justice of Peace in Raub.

Tengku Kudin b. Tengku Haji Samad was born in Durian Sebatang Village, Mukim Gali, Raub in 1871 and died in 1943. He was the second Penghulu of Mukim Gali, appointed in 1906 and resigned in 1928. In 1929 he was awarded with the title Dato' Setia Lela Pahang by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Pahang.
